Geolocator Firefox add-on. Why not to trust Facebook Places...

Location spoofing and why you should never trust Facebook Places. A little guide on how to hack / spoof Facebook Places.

Hello, Its not a proper review but I found this really interesting.

A couple of days ago I came across an addon for Firefox called Geolocator. It lets you spoof your computers current location to anywhere in the world. It was designed for making your location more accurate when searching for directions or places to go.

I installed it and decided to see if it would spoof the new Places application that Facebook have just rolled out. You can't check in from a computer as of yet however if you go to http://touch.facebook.com from a laptop or pc it will allow you to access the mobile version of the site which has places built in.

I'm from the UK and the last check in I did was at University a couple of hours (2 max) before I checked in at the White House, Washington DC!Facebook allowed me to do this and the spoofing worked perfectly!

As a quick side note to this you should be aware that most browsers can actually send your current estimated location to every site you are visiting. Its probably worth spoofing it or at least turning it off!
